Bowlers Club

Several of our junior’s take part in the Southern Bowlers Club held at Enfield Bowl.  Round One was played over the weekend of 9th and 10th February.

Daniel Edwards went through each cut and finished third, being knocked out in the stepladder.

Round 2 took place over the weekend of 13th and 14th April.  Another successful tournament for some of the Tolworth Junior boys as Darren Steward was 9th. Chris went into the stepladder final having just bowled his last two games of 208 and 233 regaining his first place, which took him into the stepladder final.  He played Garry Sykes who bowled a 232 and Chris just lost to him bowling a 201, very unlucky Chris but a very good tournament average of 198.9.  Well done.

HELPRound three, the final one for this season takes place over the weekend of 29th and 30th June.  Good Luck

Bowlers

Surrey Area Championships

This event was a first for some bowlers, but the Mid City Lanes at PURLEY are a favourite with some of our juniors

There were some very impressive scores being recorded and when you look at the overall sheet for the All Events with handicap you will see 3 of our juniors amongst the adults in the top 12.  Lying in 1st place was Martin Ashton with 2025; in 10th was John Wells with 1901 and 12th was Dan Penn with 1895.  These three boys also made it through to the first round of the Surrey Area Masters Event, losing to people such as

Jo Harries, Barry Eason and Peter Cornwell.

It was great to see our League Secretaries, Coaches/Instructors and YBC Secretary taking part, they were not going to be out done.  Shona Louvel bowling with Tricia (mum/instructor) bowled a 524 series in the doubles and finished 2nd.

Angela Steward finished 3rd in the lady’s singles

In the junior singles boys Darren Steward finished 2nd and 9 pins down Peter Naylor finish 4th.

Junior singles girls Sophie Baccolini finished 2nd bowling a 600 series with h/cap, Sarah Taylor finished 3rd 586 series with h/cap.

Junior Girls double team of Rebecca Steward & Sophie Baccolini finished 4th bowling in the boys division.

2 Junior Doubles teams finished in the top three. A real fight for places in the regular team event with No Fear (Mike Cobb, Dan Penn, Daz Steward, John Wells and Chris Luscombe) competing not only against Cracker Surprise (Martin Ashton, Dan Edwards, Ian Cracknell, Josh Buller and Lee Streeter) but the adult teams too.

Cracker Surprise took the first game by 7 pins, No Fear took the next by 15, 8 the difference going into the last game – No Fear took the last by 39 taking the overall by just 26 including the handicaps.  They finished 5th and 6th respectfully.  Bob Steward’s team finished 2nd we said our officials gave us a run for our money!

Junior All Events winner was Martin Ashton and 2nd was John Wells.  Martin bowled his highest series of 697.  Tolworth was well represented and proud of them we should all be.  You are setting yourselves high standards juniors, keep making these high achievements.

Rounded Rectangular Callout: Congratulations once again to Daniel Edwards who bowled a 702 series in the A J Bull League earlier this year.

Alex Smith, Chris Best and Chris Manders stood for election of Captain.  I am sure you already knew that Alex Smith won with the most votes.  This is a fitting way for Alex to finish his last year as a YBC member.
